Reprieve, Sort of....

Kale is no longer going to Fort Campbell and it is looking more and more like he will not be going to Iraq. I am cautiously optimistic about this news, it is the Army and they can do a 180 at anytime. The reason he is no longer going is good new, he is now promotable. This means when his number (43) comes up he will be promoted to SFC (Sergent First Class). Since the position he was going to in Iraq was a SSG position they feel it would be detrimental to his career to put him in a position "beneath him". The Army is funny like that, it very much goes by a code.

Now the current talk is for Kale to be deployed to Cuba. Much safer but nonetheless gone. His mother was so happy she was practically in tears. Kale has mixed feeling about it, it would have looked better on his record to have been to Iraq for when he submits a packet to OCS (Officer's Candidate School). Of course that would be mute if he were to never return from Iraq. So it's good news, bad news day. Good he's not going (we think) and he will be safe. Bad that he will still be gone for a year.

That's gotta be scary. Hopefully that won't ever happen. Fingers crossed here...
