My mil had the idea that my fil should drive to Jacksonville in Dec to pick Kale up instead of him flying home from Jacksonville. BUT they would "have him stay a few days in TN with them" before they brought him home. Is it selfish of me to say WTF and HELL NO? I don't believe so. They are his parents, who see him once or twice a year anyhow. We are his family and we normally see him everyday of the year. Plus he wants them to come here for Christmas Eve and day, maybe a couple of extra days beyond that. But he only has 16 days home, This.Entire.Year! I really don't care if they come at all honestly. So yeah, you can guess how far that idea went before it was shot down. Even Kale doesn't want them here for more than 4 days while he is home. Something to do with me and no "contact" while we have guests, I have a weird thing about it. At the same time it irritates him to no end that his mom just keeps brushing the subject under the rug so to speak.
So that's me. One selfish brat. :P

I never really thought about that, when a military person comes home and instead of having some desperately needed alone time with the SO, they have to entertain in-laws and neighbors and such. Blah!
You certainly aren't selfish...I wouldn't even let them stay a couple of days! And I wouldn't apologize.
OMG, That woman is crazy ans insensitive and a thorn in your side. I hope you find a good home for her far far away when she is old and loony. You should not have to live with that. Oh, wait, she is already old and loony. Look for a good far far away home now.
girl. please. you are NOT being selfish in the least. i can see that his parents want to see him and all that... but a few days TOPS is good, the rest of the time he should be home with his family. and who the hell do they think they are to be the first ones to see him and get some time with him... what?? but then again, i'm cranky like that... I'd want to be the first person to see my husband after him being gone for 6 mnths and only getting to come home ONCE in a year!!
I wouldn't even probably let them stay more than one day... that would be about my limit... so you are doing a good thing already... no need to feel bad or apologize.
